Attempting to arrest an accused cop beaten to death
RANCHI — A policeman was beaten to death and two other personnel were injured in an attack by villagers at Irba, on the outskirts of Ranchi, today when they tried to arrest an accused there.
The accused, identified as Nausand, raised alarm when the four-member Bihar police team, in civil clothes, tried to arrest him from his house in connection with a case, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Hemant Toppo said here.
Nausand’s screams attracted fellow villagers, who surrounded the policemen and beat them up.
Constable Mohammad Gulam succumbed to his injuries while two other constables were admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, the police officer added.
The local police have launched an operation to identify the culprits.
