PATNA — Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday renewed his demand for Rs 14800 crore special package for reconstruction of the ravaged Kosi belt and rehabilitation of the victims.
Interacting with the media here, Nitish said, “We want the package as it has become necessary for the Kosi belt ravaged by floods.”
Nitish’s demand came barely a couple of days after his meeting with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia.
On Thursday, Ahluwalia promised the state government to look into its demands.
But the chief minister expressed his unhappiness saying, “It is unfortunate that even a year after the tragedy that befell the people of Bihar, the Centre has not come forward with the package.”
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi also said that while he is happy that the Centre decided to grant Rs 7,266 crore package for drought hit Bundelkhand, it pains him when the Centre neglects Bihar’s legitimate demand for Special Status.

Patliputra name for Patna brings us close to our Buddhist and ancient roots of Bihar’s culture , henceforth Patna should be called by its original name “Patliputra”
I think all Biahris and all bihari political leaders should unitedly attack the UPA Center and ask for the Bihar special economic package for economic development of Biahr whihc has been negelected for the past 60 years since independence.
Jai bihar !!
Nitish Govt. is moving on right track & the move, special status to Bihar, should be supported by, at least , all Biharis irrespective of their political affiliations . Every one knows after division of Bihar , it has been left with no mineral resources & industrial areas like Dhanbad, Bokaro, Giridih, Tata Ngr, Ranchi, Ramgarah and others .Central Govt granted Rs. 7200/ , as a relief package for drought area of Bundel Khand but nothing for Kosi Area. For this Nitishji should meet PM anf if necessary he should call all party meeting . It would have been better Special Status had been asked , at the time of division of Bihar, when Nitishji was very much part of Central Govt.led by BJP and Uttranchal was given “Special Status”. It may be his political ploy but it is for benefit of Bihar and all should join together for any move that is for Bihar’s development. Now people of Bihar , inside and out side of Bihar, are watching every political party what they are doing for Bihar that is far behind on development scale from other states. People have given sweeping mandates to NDA ,during 2009 Lok Sabha Election , and now expecting more and more from them ( 32 NDA MPs). We Biharis are watching, helplessly, how present Rly Minister is totally ignoring Bihar .Now it is their duties(NDA MPs) to get all central projects completed and bring more new central projects as unless and until state’s infrastructure is developed by public investment no private investment is possible. People are keeping close watch & comparing performance of present 32 NDA MPs with the previous ,during 2004 to 2009 , almost same number, UPA MPs from the state. Only signature campaign is not enough it needs some thing more . Finally people of Bihar have a lot of expectations from Nitishji who has education , vision and mission.
Jai Hind ! Jai Bihar!
