Satuani festival, mainly celebrated in Mithila and Champaran region of Bihar, will be celebrated on Sunday. A day after, on April 15, Jur Sheetal will be observed by Hindu devotees of Bihar.
Like most Hindu festivals Satuani and Jur Sheetal are about worshiping mother nature.
On the day of Satuani, devotees worship after the bath in the morning, worshiping the family deity (kuldevta / kuldevi) with sattu (prepared by dry roasting grains or grams, mainly barley or bengal gram ), gur or meetha (jaggery) and tikola (baby mangoes).
The festive occasion of Satuani is in keeping with the Maithil Panchang (or Tirhuta Panchang), a calendar used in Mithila region. Celebrated on April 14, Maithili New Year or Jur Sheetal holds great significance and traditions to the people in Mithila.
