BUXAR – Former RJD MLA Ram Chandra Yadav has rebelled and filed nomination as an Independent from Buxar Lok Sabha constituency.
Ram Chandra Yadav, who was elected MLA from Bhabua in 2005 on BSP ticket, is considered close to Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, who is pitted against RJD candidate Sharad Yadav in Madhepura as an Independent this time.
The move may hurt the prospects of the party’s official nominee Jagadanand Singh, who is pitted against union minister and sitting BJP MP Ashwini Kumar Choubey.
The rebel politician claimed the support of Pappu Yadav, Dadan Pahalwan and former RJD MLA Ajit Choudhary.
Pappu Yadav and his wife Ranjeet Ranjan had won Madhepura and Supaul Lok Sabha on RJD and Congress tickets respectively in 2014. Pappu was denied RJD ticket from Madhepra, after which he filed nomination as an Independent. His wife Ranjeet, who is contesting from Supaul again on a Congress ticket, is facing resistance from RJD workers who are demanding Pappu to withdraw from Madhepura.
Shesh Nath Yadav, the party’s district unit president, dismissed the popularity of Pappu, Dadan, Ajit and Ram Chandra and lamented them for ‘helping the BJP’.
“These people are helping BJP for their vested interests,” he said.
Buxar goes to polls in the seventh phase on May 19.
