NEW DELHI — The Centre has asked the Bihar government to utilise funds released under the National Rural Drinking Water Supply Programme, warning that it will not be eligible for the second installment of funds if utilisation remains below 60 per cent.
“The state has a fund of Rs 600 crore available of which only Rs 40 crore was spent till September,” Secretary, Department of Drinking Water in the Rural Development Ministry Rajwant Sandhu noted during her recent visit to the state.
“The pace of utilisation has to be stepped up if the second installment is to be availed,” she told the Bihar government.
Sandhu also took note of the low sanitation coverage in Bihar and suggested that the state address it.
Earlier, the Centre said that Bihar will lose central grants for city buses with the state failing to place orders so far. The state did not submit the utilization certificate in time for the funds received by it, which was released in February this year, as a part of Central government’s stimulus measure. Union Rural Development Minister C P Joshi had also alleged that a whopping Rs 8,000 crore under various schemes under his ministry, besides NREGA, was lying unspent with the state government.

state govt has huge fund of rs 600 crores for drinking water management……nitish govt should get old ahra ,pain ,pokhar ,water ponds etc re energised by digging them deep after getting freed from the illegal kabza of the land grabber and goons…..
at least four big lakes around every city and municipality and two big lakes adjascent to every village should be dug by utilizing this fund without delay….this will raise the water level and solve drinking water problems for ever….and develop aquaculture ,creating sound ground for many cttage industries..etc

Where is our Water Resources minister VP Yadav’s reply? Is anyone listening? Just 40crore is utilised out of 600crore. It looks like Bihar does not require improving/changing its irrigation and water management methods.
There are so much work left to be done in each and every part of bihar. Why hasn’t the fund been utilised. Who will reply? Nitish is responsible for his Ministers, but we want a reply from the Water Resources minister. Does he have anything to say or he doesn’t have time out preparing for the next year elections.
