Bhagalpur – A man under police custody was found dead in Bhagalpur district. The deceased had been arrested on charge of drinking in the ‘dry’ state of Bihar. The man was found hanging in the lock-up of the Kahalgaon police station.
The deceased was identified as Dilkhush Kumar. It was alleged that the deceased had been arrested for drinking and beating up his mother and family members.
Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Manoj Kumar Sudhanshu said that the breathe analyzer test and medical examination confirmed that the deceased was inebriated.
Following the incident, the body of the deceased was sent to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem. Sudhanshu claimed that he would look into the incident personally to check if police personnel posted at the police station had a role to play in Kumar’s death.
The much-hyped liquor ban is in a sorry state in rural Bihar as alcohol is easily available everywhere. With bootlegged alcohol, home deliveries and cross-border pilgrimages, Bihar is far from being a ‘dry’ state.
