The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate from Sitamarhi parliamentary constituency in Bihar, Dr Varun Kumar from the Janata Dal (United) on Wednesday returned the ticket to party president Nitish Kumar alleging non-cooperation by local leaders of the alliance.
Varun alleged that the local JD(U) and BJP workers were not supporting his campaign.
Under NDA alliance seat sharing pact Sitamarhi seat has gone to JD(U). Sitamarhi will vote on May 6 in the fifth phase, the nomination process for which will begin on April 10.
Meanwhile, Sunil Kumar Pintu, a four time BJP MLA from Sitamarhi, was hastily asked to join the JD(U) to fill-in and contest the Sitamarhi Lok Sabha seat in place of Dr Varun.
Pintu was also minister in the previous NDA government.
The Opposition alliance has fielded Arjun Rai, who is close to former JD(U) president Sharad Yadav, from Sitamarhi.
