MOTIHARI — The three-day Urs mela kicked off on Saturday at the historical Dargah of Data Halim Sahib at Mehsi village in East Champaran district.
Thousands of people from different sects of North Bihar and Nepal arrived here to offer “chadar” at the dargah. The 400-year-old dargah is a popular pilgrimage spot, where an annual fair is held on the eve of Bakr-Eid every year.
Noted historian Abul Fazal has described this dargah at Mehsi in his famous book “Ain-e-Akbari”. According to him, Data Halim Sahib is a descendant of the Tarbari family to which Taimur belonged.
During the Mughal era, about 400 years ago, Mirza Halim, once a king who turned into a fakir, came at Mehsi on a tour and met a local saint Mahesh Raut. Mahesh Raut later became a disciple of Halim Sahib. To this day, this village has a Hindu shrine and a dargah built side-by-side. Both the dargah and the Hindu shrine were built on the order of Halim Sahib.

We should plan for bigger fair near the surrounding of ‘Kesariya Buddha Stupa’ as this is the highest and largest stupa in the world which can create better image for the whole Champaran Area.
