DID YOU KNOW? The Grand Trunk Road built by Sher Shah Suri of Sasaram (Bihar) is the longest, the oldest and the most famous highway in the Indian sub-continent, stretching 1,500 miles from Kabul to Calcutta.
"Henceforth (Jan 26, 2010), for all intents and purposes, Jai Bihar will use Patliputra instead of Patna (e.g. Patna University will be called Patliputra University). We appeal to all to do the same. Your suggestions solicited at s@jaibihar.com." - Sanjeev Singh

Nitish attacks UPA for blocking flood relief fund

News Desk - June 12, 2009

SUPAUL — Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today accused the Manmohan Singh led UPA government of not heeding to its demand for a Rs 14,800 crore rehabilitation and reconstruction package for Kosi region ravaged by floods last year.

“We carried out the best possible relief work in the Kosi belt with what little resources we had.We submitted a package of Rs 14,800 crore few months back for rehabilitation and reconstruction of Kosi area but till date there is no response from the Centre on this,” Kumar said, addressing a public meeting here during his Vikas Yatra.

“Instead they (Centre) asked us (state government) to refund Rs 1,000 crore given for relief operation,” he said.

Kumar thanked people for giving his party an impressive mandate, particularly for ensuring the victory of Vishwamohan Kumar, who won from Supaul seat by a margin of more than one lakh votes.

Earlier, slamming Manmohan Singh-led government at the Centre for allegedly not releasing funds spent on maintenance of National Highways in Bihar, Nitish Kumar said that the state government would continue to exert pressure on New Delhi to get the funds released for these projects immediately.

“The Centre is reluctant to give money to the state government spent on the maintenance of highways in Bihar. We will further build pressure to get the dues,” Nitish said while addressing a function organised to mark 34th foundation day of Bihar Rajya Pul Norman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL).

Stating that the state government had spent Rs 711 crore to repair national highways in the last three years, Nitish alleged that the Centre was “reluctant” to give the money.

I am 100% agree with Aman. Fund allocated for relief is not relief for Bihar flood. It is pocket money to levels beurocrat and politician. That is the sole reason which never make it happen to raise the voice for permanent solution by politician.

Instead of fighting on flood relief fund every year, why not central govt. invest these huge ammounts on longlasting soutions of Bihar flood.

Most of these huge funds actually goes to politician & beaurocrats pockets.

Flood in Bihar is the largest source of income for corrupt politician & beaurocrats at all level (From Delhi to Gram panchayat).

Hight of Corruption: when contractor starts building bridge just before flood time. complete 25 per cent of works & get 100 per cent money reimbursed from the govt as they finished their work & flood destroyed it again.
75 per cent of amount is then shared between Sarpanch, Mukhia, Engineers, Officers & offcourse MLA/MP as these contractors are usually Puppets of MLA/MP.

Central govt. should not misuse taxpayers money. Better to Invest 100000 Crore for longlasting solution (15-20 yrs) than giving every year 15000 Crore.
