PATNA — Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar might have won the masses on the plank of development, but caste politics is still alive and kicking in Bihar. Politics of caste is blatant rather than latent, as three caste-based leaders – Lalu Prasad, Ram Vilas Paswan and Nitish Kumar are fighting it out to create their own ’secure’ vote-bank.
In a clear move to eviscerate LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan as Dalit leader, Nitish Kumar led NDA government on Tuesday decided to include Chamars in the Mahadalit category. The state Cabinet here on Tuesday accepted the recommendation of the State Mahadalit Commission in this regard.
Leaving Dusadhs – a dominant caste among the Scheduled Castes (SC), the NDA government in Bihar has now accorded Mahadalit status to all SC groups. Paswan belongs to Dusadh caste.
With this inclusion the government has included 21 of the 22 Dalit castes in the Mahadalit list. In July, the government had included two Dalit castes – Pasi and Dhobi, in the Mahadalit category.
Of the total scheduled caste population of 1.3 crore in Bihar as per the 2001 census, Chamar caste accounts for 31.34 per cent. The four SC castes – Dusadh, Pasi, Dhobi and Chamar constitute 69% of the Dalit population in the state. Other 18 Mahadalit castes are – Bantar, Bauri, Bhogta, Bhuiyan, Chaupal, Dabgar, Dom, Ghasi, Halalkhor, Hadi, Kanjar, Kuraria, Lalbegi, Mushar, Nat, Pan, Rajwar and Turi.
Ramvilas Paswan, who is rejuvenating his Dalit Sena after LJP’s Lok Sabha debacle, has protested against the exclusion of Dusadh caste in the Mahadalit list accusing Nitish Kumar of dividing Dalits.
The government is going to spend Rs 815.06 crore on Mahadalits like free land, house, among other welfare schemes. The government would also provide community halls, community colour televisions and a transistor radio to each family in every Mahadalit locality.
Nitish Kumar, who won the mandate to return Bihar to the sane society and to cleanse the system of the festering wounds that the previous regime left behind, has made concentrated efforts to consolidate non-Ahir votebank. He is also deftly eating into Lalu’s vote bank by wooing Muslims. The strategy is to make big inroads in the socially neglected classes and win them over before the Assembly elections.
If others are not getting anything it is not the Dusadh faults. The fault lies with Dusadhs? Who distributes the bread? The distributor of course is not like Jesus Christ who fed a multitude of people with a few loaves. You should know better what is happening to the loaves in Bihar. I do strongly sympathize with any person who is denied bread. Please do kindly give daily bread to others who do not get anything. God let thy will be done in Bihar as it is in heaven. Amen.
Sir have ever been marginalised, isolated and rejected in your life? Would you be feeling happy in such a deplorable condition of your life when your own poor caste people are deprived and neglected, would you not do anything worthwhile for the benefit of your own poor caste people? to use ” tooth for a tooth” or “eye for an eye” or “tit for tat” policy to kick out Dusadh caste or Paswan from Maha Dalit, would it not be a bit of blow for Ram Vilas Paswan (Leader of Dusadh caste) I like your motto “worship is worship whether in temple, mosque or church “. But to kick out deliberately the entire dominant Dusadh caste from Maha Dalit was a significant signifier signifying to Ram Vilas Paswan that lots of Dusadh caste could not get the same equal opportunities and benefits the Maha Dalit caste and sub-caste would get.
Ram Vilas Paswan intentionally wanted Dusadh caste or Paswan to be included in Maha Dalit to reap the benefits in jobs, education, lands, homes, money, prestige just like other caste and sub-caste of Maha Dalit would get. You prefer the retribution tack -tick. You refused to include Dusadh caste into Maha Dalit the seed of retribution can only produce the fruit of retribution hatred breeds hatred in future hope you use the cohesive social glue tack-tick to facilitate the rhyme of work to solve problems.
Suppose you have 5 sons and 4 of them bowed to your feet for blessing and you give you’re blessing to them, the 4 sons would be very happy. But, when the 5th son will bow to your feet for blessing and you step back and refuse to give your blessing do you know how much you have hurt the 5th son feelings?
Perhaps, Ram Vilas Paswan might have been insulted by your deliberately daring attitude of rejecting the entire Dusadh caste by refusing to include it in Maha Dalit. I do most sincerely and humbly solicit you to do your utmost to help all the poor Dusadhs in Bihar educationally, socially, politically and economically so that they do make progress by leaps and bounds, and improve their life.

some people want to eat the bread and have it too….
think of others who are not getting anything…..
Mr. Nitish Kumar is security his votes and voters in positive way. His way is to provide better facility to backward community so that they can live respectful life and this is not wrong. Welfare done in any way cannot be said wrong. Worship is worship whether it is done in Temple, Mosque or Church. Others did caste politics only nothing else. So I fully support steps of Mr. Nitish Kumar
Politically and strategically it’s a very good move ,as well as it would benefit the poor people of this community. What mr. nitish is doing is correct because “tit for tat ” or jaise ko taisa should always be done ,enough of mr. paswan played with sentiments of poor people on name of caste ,religion etc.
So mr. lalu and paswan try to make development as serious topic for elections rather than depending on your own caste ,as even those people have realized that giving u people a chance was biggest mistake .

it is well known that paswans ,jatavs ,balmikis and others are very hard working but in return they are getting abuses ,insults ,poverty ,untouchability ,slum life only because they belong to so called lower c asate….
casteism is the worst kind of crime being committed by people in india…it is not practised anywhere in the world except in bihar….this must be abolished….
govt is doing something half heartedly but this is helping lower caste much….
every responsible and educated person must try to bring this highly neglected people in the men stream without delay otherwise things will go out of control….
it is a section of vested interest who are depriving you of honourable living in the name of casteism ….remember that you in reality belong to the so called lower caste which produced great indians like chandragupta and ashoka and other kings who in fact saved the honour of bharat mata…
exert yourself ,educate yourself…enter the place of worship forcibly…no person can be termed low by birth….casteism is man made thing just to take undue advantage….it has already been condemned by the u n o many times but the faceless indians are trying to justify and retain it…
some comments by me have hurt you but i meant to say that go to interior of bihar and see the plight of balmikis….they are the worst sufferers for non of their faults because of hate and neglect…they also require leader like ramvilash who can roar and bring justice to the lowest casate and class….
