The JD(U), BJP’s crucial ally in Bihar, which pulled out of the Narendra Modi-led government has made it clear that the party does not want to join the new Cabinet just for the sake of “symbolic” representation.
The JD(U), which was supposed to be part of the Cabinet, didn’t find place in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led 57-member Cabinet at the last moment.
The BJP had announced that key allies will be represented in the Cabinet this time and proposed one ministerial berth for each ally. Allies like LJP headed by Ram Vilas Paswan, Akali Dal, Shiv Sena and RPI(A) joined the new Cabinet yesterday. The JD(U) was the only major ally not represented.
Speaking about it to mediapersons, the Bihar CM said the JD(U) was not interested in symbolic token representation in the Union Council of Ministers.
Speaking further, Nitish said, “There should be proportional representation.”
Nitish Kumar clarified that his party had not made any demand for any particular Cabinet berth from the NDA led by the BJP.
He reiterated his party’s whole-hearted support to the Modi government and the NDA but warned that “No one should have any confusion that the victory which was registered by NDA in Bihar – it’s the victory of the people of Bihar.”
“If somebody is claiming that this is his personal victory, then they are delusional,” he added.
He said everyone should remember the long queues of poor and those deprived sections, who voted in Bihar and that should be kept in mind during times of cabinet formation.
The JD-U, which is headed by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, was not a part of the first Modi government as well. It had allied with the saffron party in 2017 but had not joined the government.
