PATNA – In a last minute decision, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said no to the invitation rolled out to JD(U) to join the Union cabinet expressing his dissatisfaction over the less number of berths offered, which reduced the representation of Bihar from seven ministers in previous cabinet to six in the new cabinet, sworn in under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.
Nitish had declared after Lok Sabha elections that his party JD(U) would join the new government to be formed under Modi for the second term. He had also discussed the issue with BJP president Amit Shah and Bihar in-charge of party affairs Bhupendra Yadav.
Minutes before the oath taking ceremony, Nitish surprised everyone by announcing that JD(U) would not join the government.
He was upset over the fact that only one berth was offered to JD(U) which was not acceptable to his party and after consultation with senior leaders and newly elected MPs, he made the formal announcement.
