Several parts of Bihar experienced hailstorm this morning and several northern districts received rain too. The IMD has also predicted thunder-squall with wind speeds of up to 70 kmph in Bihar as well as several other north and north eastern states.
A red alert has been declared in more than 19 districts of Bihar, with 18 others also on alert.
Rabi crop faces an uncertain few days as unseasonal rain and hailstorms hit north India, and weather officials have predicted more showers and storms in the next few days.
Government officials are monitoring the situation because rainfall and hailstorms on the eve of the harvest can damage crops severely.
North India has already experienced the effects of the current weather disturbance. The last 24 hours have seen rain and dust storms in Delhi and its surrounding National Capital Region (NCR).
Unseasonal rains and storms have hit the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Manipur and Maharashtra on Wednesday. While it claimed 19 lives in the state of Gujarat, it has claimed 5 lives in Rajasthan.
