SASARAM – Unidentified criminals today shot dead a food grain merchant and looted Rs 4 lakh from him near Belwaia village under Dinara police station area in Rohtas district.
Police said here that four criminals driving two motorcycles gunned down the businessman Lalji Sahu and injured his son Bipin Sahu critically when they resisted their move to loot cash from them.
Criminals made good their escape from the spot after looting the money bag. Sources said businessman and his son were returning to their native Dinara village on their bike after withdrawing the amount from a bank when the incident took place.
Police said that the injured had been admitted to a private hospital in Sasaram.
Meanwhile, local people blocked national highway 30 near Belwaia village in protest against the murder.
