Security intensified on Bihar-Nepal border

News Desk - May 6, 2009

BAIRGANIA — With the current political crisis in Nepal showing no sign of abatement, border forces on Wednesday intensified patrolling along the international boundary.

The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), which protects the 1,751- km highly porous Indo-Nepal border, has asked its personnel attached with various wings of the government to report to the headquarters immediately.

Similar orders have been issued to the reserve battalions, a senior SSB official said.

The Centre asked para- military force SSB to mount vigil along the international boundary with Nepal and alerted bordering states to prevent infiltration into Indian territory.

Security has been heightened in border areas like Jayanagar, Bhitamore (Sursand), Sonabarsa, Bairgania and  Raxaul in Bihar.

Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, who has been closely monitoring the law and order position along the border, has directed the SSB to keep extra vigil to prevent movement of unwanted elements along the border by taking advantage of the fluid political situation in the Himalayan nation.
