"Henceforth (Jan 26, 2010), for all intents and purposes, Jai Bihar will use Patliputra instead of Patna (e.g. Patna University will be called Patliputra University). We appeal to all to do the same. Your suggestions solicited at s@jaibihar.com." - Sanjeev Singh

BJP pooh-poohs demand for Modi’s removal

News Desk - November 6, 2009

PATNA — Ruling out any change in the party’s leadership and removal of Sushil Kumar Modi as Bihar Deputy Chief Minister, senior BJP leader Sayed Shahnawaz Hussain today said no such demand was under consideration at top level.

“There is no plan to change Modi…the party’s national leadership has not received any such demand from any section,” Shahnawaz told reporters here.

A section of the party leaders, led by BJP legislator and former minister Chandramohan Rai, had demanded Modi’s removal following his reported statement to cover sharecroppers under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme.

Modi’s announcement that in the state bataidars (sharecroppers) and landowners (both) would be entitled to the Kisan credit cards (KCC) and farm loans up to Rs 50,000, triggered the protest. Modi added that cultivators would not be required to show land possession certificates (LPC) for claiming a loan amount of Rs 50,000 or less.

“This move will drive a nail in to the NDA coffin,” Rai said. Over six party legislators met at the residence of Chandramohan Rai demanding Modi’s resignation and resolving to take up the issue with the BJP high command.

Former Union minister CP Thakur described Modi’s statement as “inflammatory” that may lead to violence in the hinterland.

Modi, however, explained that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has himself ruled out the possibility of enacting any legislation to protect sharecroppers.

“The government has no intention, whatsoever, to infringe upon the rights of the landowners,” he said, adding “The central government and NABARD have issued guidelines for the KCC and the grant of loans up to Rs 50,000 to the farmers and sharecroppers without asking them to produce LPC.”

“The state government is implementing the Nabard and Centre guidelines,” he said, clarifying that BJP had always been the party championing the cause of landholders.

Shahnawaz later said that the BJP is gearing up to raise the issue of Centre’s neglect of Bihar, in the forthcoming session of the Parliament.

yesterday i was talking to my one friend from Maharastra about loans to bataidar in Bihar. He said it is two decades old story. It was done in Maharastra long back. I asked whether any landlord lost his field because of nonpayment of this loan. He told that there is no such provision and no landowner has lost land due to this.
let us chekout.
So my landowner friends you can sleep in piece and let govt give loans to bataidar it may help increase productivity of our farm.

let govt develop mechanism of approval/recovery of loan. Why some people are against idea of giving loan to bataidars?

First it should be clear, in case of loan defaulter who will be catched. If its sharecroppers as they have taken the loan then it should be cordially welcomed. But if landowners have to give some guarantee cover on the loan then, then F*** OFF !!! go to hell.

Well said Tushar. If land documents are not required for loan that means many people will apply for loan on the basis of same land. Who’ll be held for such frauds?

Why some people are jealous if bataidars are given loan facilities?

If Modi want to do something for farmers then he would be to find permanent flood solution, Good techonlogy provide to farmers for more production, compensation for farmers who lost….. otehrwise there no need to implement KCC and loan for farmers. What else he want to show. This is BULLSHIT activity by MODI.

It is strange that Some of BJP members are having objection to loan facility to bataidars(share croppers). It is height of aristocracy.
