Liquor kills six in Siwan

News Desk - November 5, 2009

SIWAN — Six persons died after they reportedly consumed spurious liquor at Nawalpur Mohalla here, District Magistrate Bala Murugam said today.

“We have reports of six deaths from Mohalla… It is being alleged that they died after consuming spurious liquor during the past three days,” Murugam said.

One Ladu Ram and Dhumal Sahi died at a government hospital today and the report of their autopsy suggested that their deaths were due to food poisoning, the DM said.

“But at the same time we have sent samples for viscera test and we will be able to tell exactly whether they died after consuming spurious liquor or not only after receiving the reports,” the District Magistrate said.

Murugam said he had ordered the district officials to raid the liquor shops here and collect samples of country-made liquor being sold in the area.
